Hello lovelies!
There are so many great books out there that I’m scared to read. By “scared” I mean that I don’t want them to break my heart and leave me broken crying on the floor. There are also books that Im scared to read because of the. book length or even the dark and heavy subject matter. I still think that someday I will read them but only when I’m ready. (Will I ever be?)
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

This book is very popular in the book community because it has the reputation to break your heart and leave it in tiny pieces. Many people don’t recover. I’m not ready to commit to this.
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

It has recently been adapted by Reese Whitherspoon and everyone is raving about it. However this book is very far from what I usually go for and I’m really scared to stray away from my beloved Fantasy YA.
The Goldfinch by Donna Tart

My teacher has recommended this book to us and I also see it everywhere. Once again, after reading the synopsis, I’m not ready to commit to the emotional damage.
Normal People by Sally Rooney

This book seems very intriguing and I actually have too high hopes for it, but it has very mixed reviews and that is something that scares me because I usually agree with the negative reviews. Let’s hope this book surprises me.
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I notoriously stay away from anything that has horror in it. Same goes from thrillers and spooky things in general BUT this is written by a POC and I have seen excellent reviews of this one. I might read it around Halloween? Or not?
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

This book is a beloved Classic and one of my English Lit teacher in high school raved about it; However, am I ready for the pain and the heartbreak? No, I’m not.
What are some books you are scared to read? Have you read any of these? Should I? Let me know in the comments!

A Little Life was very heartbreaking, but I also enjoyed reading it, if that means anything π
I hope when you do get around to these books, you enjoy them! π

You have some great ones on here that are worth you jumping into. Little Fires Everywhere is not the type of book I usually reach for either, but it was such a great read. It’s worth giving a chance. Very well written and so too is Kite Runner. Yea, it’ll break you a bit but it’ll repair before it’s done. And I heard Mexican Gothic isn’t too scary.

I’m going to trust you and I think I’m going to pick these up, especially if they “repair” me before they’re done π
