Blogmas Day 16: Top 6 covers of 2021 🖼📔💕

I judge books by their covers. There, I said it. While it isn’t my only criterion for picking up a book, beautiful covers are a big factor into my choosing of a book! This is a little bit of a shorter post but I wanted to show you my favourite covers of books that I read in 2021 or that came out in 2021.

From this list I have figured out that I love illustrations on covers; it helps me visualize the characters and sets the tone of the story (does that make sense??). For example, a darker color will give a darker “atmosphere” to the story whereas pastel colors will give it a light, almost summery aura. I also noticed that I really enjoy intricate, detailed covers à la The Inheritance Games. I find them particularly intriguing and most of the time these types of covers hide details from the story which you notice once you finish the book. That’s why I also like when specific cover colors or choices make sense after you’ve read them like for Legendborn (the color around Bree’s hands) or Cool for The Summer (the boy and the girl in the glasses)! I also like illustrated covers, when they of people of color! I’m so used to the erasure that seeing certain skin tones and features warms my heart! 😍
