I’m Back! – Accidental Hiatus, My Favourite Books From The Past Three Months and What I’ve Been Up To!

Hello lovelies!

Long time no see! I cannot believe how much time has gone by. This post was initially a draft of my “February Wrap-Up!” which I unfortunately never finished writing, so it has turned into a general wrap-up of these past three months. I missed posting and chatting with all of you. Even if I’m on other platforms, there is something special about book blogging.

Without further ado, here is a ranking of the 25 books I have read in the last three months.

Book Ranking

Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique

Tremendously enjoyed my time reading

A good book but nothing spectacular

I had an amazing reading trimester! I kicked it off in February by only reading books by Black authors which was a breath of fresh air. I try to diversify my reading as much as I can and it always warms my heart when there are mentions of a darker skin color or a certain hair texture. It just feels like an extra nod to a certain shared experience and feeling. It’s really nice to feel seen and relate to characters. My February favourite was Raybearer which definitely and thankfully lived up to the hype. I loved the characters as well as the plot and I am very excited for a future screen adaptation. I am very eager to read the sequel as soon as I’m able to. Since I have received a lot of books on my birthday, I decided to go on a book buying ban and tackle the books on my physical TBR. I really like making the conscious effort of reading books I have been avoiding and meaning to get to for the longest time. It’s nice taking control over my spending even if I have still an itch to get more books. I still manage to read new releases through audiobooks or my kindle. I also hosted a Legendborn readalong with a few friends back in February and I enjoyed the book even more the second time around, even though it already an all-time favourite the first time I read it. I can’t get over how incredible that book is. We had a nice live conversation about it and I felt even closer to the characters.

I also went to a Romance Authors convention with some of my favourite authors (I will dedicate a post on that!!) and I listened to a lot of audiobooks. I binged The Truly Devious series which I really enjoyed as well as the Minf*ck series which was so unique and gripping (but check the trigger warnings!). I’m happy that there are no books I truly disliked even though King of Battle and Blood and Ignite Me were a little disappointing.

There are a lot of books that came out that I cannot wait to read, especially Portrait of A Thief which is included in the April Illumicrate box. Additionally, a lot of favourite authors are releasing books in May, especially the ones featured below.

May book releases I’m excited for

Life Update and Goals

It’s good to be back! In my accidental hiatus, I’ve turned twenty-three (which was followed by a life crisis), a new war has started in Europe, I started posting on tiktok (@anotherbookworm_) which I’m enjoying more than I expected, I have met some of my favourite authors, I picked up crochet and I have obsessively watched the second season of Bridgerton and Heartstopper. Yep, that’s it!

Goals

I have noticed an irresponsible book buying habit, which I have tried to actively fight. I have currently thirty-six books on my physical TBR (audiobooks not included) and I have to read at least half of them before buying new books. I would say that I have been pretty successful so far with the exception of a few ebooks or audiobooks here and there but I am very proud of myself.

This was also the year I was supposed to take my bookish accounts (blog included) more seriously but I haven’t been completely good with this. As I briefly mentioned, I created a booktok account and after the initial panic and self-cringe, I am able to express myself and have fun. I have found it easier to review books there which has led to me not writing down my reviews and subsequently forgetting what I meant to share. This made me realize how much I really want to start writing them again. So I guess my goals for this month would be reading the books on my TBR, engage with other book content creators across all platforms and have fun!

I am also writing my master’s thesis in May on nuclear weapons and NATO which has stressed me to no end and kind of put me in a reading slump. I need to find a balance but I don’t think I will read a lot but I do hope I will enjoy the ones I’m going to read.

How have you been? Did anything new or exciting happen? Have you read any of the books mentioned? What did you think? Let me know in the comments! 🥰

  1. Welcome back, Karla!!! 😄
It looks like you read a lot of great books! I really wanted to love Raybearer but it just wasn’t it for me. I found myself confused while reading it; I loved the writing but the plot was confusing. I want to read the sequel at some point, but I’ve heard mixed reviews of it.

Good luck with your thesis paper!! I know you’ll do a great job! Happy May! 🌷 I hope you have a wonderful month! 💞
