Happy Black History Month! January Wrap-Up! February excitement!

Hello lovelies!

Happy February and Happy Black History Month! πŸ’•

February is my favourite month of the year because it’s my birthday month (February 13th) and also because everyone tries to read more diverse books and it makes me really happy!

I had a good reading month in January even if I didn’t read as much as I had hoped; I feel in a little bit of a slump and I started watching a lot of TV instead of reading but by the end of the month I found my mojo again and I’m actually very excited for all of the books I plan on reading this month

Finale by Stephanie Garber β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… I started the year by finishing Finale, the last book in the Caraval series. I think the series wrapped-up nicely and I really liked to see all of the character's arc coming to an end. I preferred the second book but still a nice ending to an enjoyable series! The author announced a few months ago that she would release a book on Jacks and i really loved it so I'm excited for that!

The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… I really enjoyed this book! It had been recommended to me on Instagram and it was so unique and captivating! You can see my full review here.

Fable by Adrienne Young β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… I didn't like this book as much as I had hoped but it remained an enjoyable book nonetheless. I really like the ship's crew and their whole dynamic but I especially loved Fable who was an inspiring and resilient strong character. I can't wait to read the second book and see how it all ends.

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… My favourite book of the month! I wrote a full review where I gushed about this here. Basically this book contains a lot of my favourite trope and made me believe in love.

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…I buddy read this book with a friend and it was such a nice experience! It was fun, action-packed and full of feels and steamy moments! I'm going to upload my review soon!

Paper Princess by Erin Watt. No rating. Call this book the "reading slump slayer"; It is so problematic, unrealistic and trashy BUT it is so addicting and I couldn't put it down. I read this in a day. I didn't expect this to be a series and I might pick up the next book when I have my next reading slump.

This month’s “hopefuls”

I know that realistically I won’t read all of these but I’m going to try my best!

Bridgerton

Do I really need to talk about this show?? I loved the diverse cast, all of the tropes and the quality of the cast and crew. I might upload a post dedicated to the series and what to read after binge-watching the TV show.

Nicola Coughlan is a real star and particularly stood out to me in Bridgerton and people recommended the Derry Girls and it was HILARIOUS. The episodes only watch 20 minutes and tell the story od girls from Londenderry in Ireland in the 90s and it was such a good time; can’t wait for season 3!

This is my sister’s favourite show, with reason and I’m into season 3 and it’s phenomenal. The whole series is magnificient.

Listen. I love love love these characters to death. I am waiting for my own personal Nick Miller. The last seasons were so wholesome and warmed my heart, I wish I could see the series again. And I almost cried with laughter too. Such a great show.

Books coming out this month I’m excited about

There are so many great releases this month! I also received an ARC in December for my Dearest Josephine by Caroline George and I highly recommend it to all of you! And of course A Court of Silver Flames! Any new SJM book is an event in and of itself! There are so many great diverse and books written by BIPOC coming out but these are the ones I’m the most interested about.

What have you been up to last month and what are your plans for this month?

Happy reading to all of you!

Karla xx

Blogmas Day #14 – Reading Update!

Hello lovelies!

Welcome to day 14 of blogmas! December is passing by way too quickly.

Books I read this week

(ARC) Afterlove by Tanya Byrne – 3/5 stars. This book had an interesting plot but it was much darker than I thought it would be and it was kind of disappointing. See my full review here.

(ARC) Dearest Josephine by Caroline George – 4/5 stars. This book was a nice surprise and I adored the writing style! You can see my full review here.

How the King of Elfhame learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black – 5/5 stars. This book was everything I hoped it would be. Its only flaw was that it was too short because I can never get enough.

Books I’m currently reading

Finale (Caraval #3) – Stephanie Garber. I am halfway through the audiobook and I am really enjoying it so far!! I daresay it’s my favourite of the series. Also the author announced another book featuring one of the characters and I’m going to look into that after I’m done reading to avoid spoilers.

Empire of Storms – Sarah J. Maas. Really hoping i get to finish this this week so I can finally move to the end of the series! I’m loving this book and everything that happens, I’ve just been very busy so picking up my e-reader was easier than this 600+ pages book.

Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I picked it up again today! I was kind of bored reading this but I found my mojo back and I can’t wait to finish this series after so many years.

What I want to read next

Any book I should prioritize?

What are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it? Let me know in the comments!

Books I’m hoping to read before the year ends!

Hello lovelies!

I am very happy to report that I reached my Goodreads challenge of reading 50 books this year! I’m so proud of myself! Last year I managed to read 45 books and right now I read 6 more books than last year. Of course lockdown and quarantine are reasons why I read more; but I also joined book twitter and took my bookstagram more seriously so I discovered so many great books and people who pushed me to read more. Overall I have had a great reading year so far. Since I don’t have the pressure of reaching my Goodreads goal, I’m free to read how many books I like!

I have so many books I want to read but realistically, with my slow reading pace and my busy school schedule, I don’t think I’ll manage to read all of my “end of the year hopefuls” but we’ll see. Here’s my list:

Finish the Throne of Glass series and start Crescent City

I’m currently reading Empire of Storms and I AM LOVING IT. And I really want to finish the series this year but the books are all quite big (600- 800 pages) and I don’t think I’ll have enough time to read everything before 2021. But let’s be hopeful!

The Poppy War – R.F Kuang

I have seen this book everywhere so I gave into tentation and I bought it last month. Since I didn’t read as much as I had hoped, I haven’t gotten around to this. I’m hoping to read this one before the year ends!

Advanced Reading Copies

I had the brilliant idea of requesting books on Netgalley, when I already have so many books on my physical TBR but I just couldn’t resist. Afterlove is a sapphic book about Ash who is about to become a reaper in the afterlife but who is determined to see her first love Poppy Morgan again. Dearest Josephine is a book about a girl who discovers old love letters written by an elusive novelist two centuries before and it seems like she is the heroine….So excited to read these!

Opposition (Lux series #5)

This is the last book in this series! I started it years ago and I finally managed to reach book 5! This is one of my favourite series and I really want to see how it all ends!

Finale (Caraval #3) by Stephanie Garber

I have read the two previous books as audiobooks so I purchased the third one also as an audiobook! The narrator is fantastic and I can’t wait to see how everything all ends.

Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo

The raving reviews were enough for me to instantly buy this book. This book follows the life of 12 Black and British women through their hardships and victories. I really want to read this before the year ends.

That’s it! Fingers crossed! Thank you for reading xx

Monthly Wrap UP – July 2020

Hello lovelies!

I really hope you are all well and safe. There are so many bad things happening lately and July has been a little overwhelming. I’m really excited for August because I haven’t had this much free time on my hands in a while. August is also my mom’s birthday month so it’s always a month I have enjoyed.

Join The Six Readathon – July 27th-August 5th

Hello lovelies!

Daisy Jones and the Six is one of my all-time favorite books. It crushed me. It’s the only book I reread this year, so when I heard there was a readathon inspired by the book, I couldn’t miss the opportunity. I also thought that it would help me in my challenge to read 10 days in three weeks!
